Reverend Musical Instruments is an American manufacturing company of electric guitars and basses. It is also referred to as Reverend Guitars. In 1997 company was established by Joe Naylor in East Detroit and is based in Toledo, Ohio. Reverend guitars are known predominantly for their combination of unorthodox methods of construction, retro style, sound quality, and reasonable price.

Joe Naylor was graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery with the Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design. Joe Naylor started repairing guitars from 1981 professionally and in 1992 he opened his first own vintage guitar/repair shop. Reverend Musical Instruments offers more than 30 models, including 10 signature models. In 2005 Reverend launched their first solid-body guitars. Previously Reverend Guitars were made up of mahogany wood but later on, in 2007, Joe Naylor decided to use Korina wood also known as an African limba to make Guitars.

American guitarist, bassist, and co-songwriter Ronald Franklin Asheton was a great supporter of Reverend Guitars. In 2009 when he passed away, his sister stands by Reverend Musical Instruments, and after that Reverend Musical Instruments decided to make Ron Asheton’s signature model, and some part of the funding goes to the Ron Asheton Foundation, benefiting music education and the Human Society in the Ann Arbor area.

In 2010Ken and Penny brought the company and Joe Naylor continued his role as the designer and technical advisor in the Reverend. After that Reverend Guitars launched more than 50 guitar models and 50 bass models. In 2015 the company relocated to Sylvania Township. Joe Naylor was also a founder of guitar Pickups Company named asRailhammer Pickups; in 2017 Reverend Musical Instrument bought Railhammer Pickups too.

Joe Naylor designed so good guitar pickups that he even holds a patent for the same(US Patent No. D737891). It’s been 8 years all guitars are made at Mirr Music based in South Korea and after that, every guitar gets inspected by experts in the Reverend set up at the Toledo, Ohio headquarters. Signature models Reverend Guitars have been created with several most influential artists, including musician and songwriter and guitarist Billy Corgan, songwriter, record producer, and the guitarist of British band Reeves Gabrels and American bassist, vocalist and songwriter Mike Watt.

All newly launched models of Reverend were designed to provide ease, sustainability, and quality product to musicians.

Initially, Joe Naylor used to sell Reverend Musical Instruments in large stores around the country but after few years of the invention of the internet Joe Naylordecided to take his business online. And this decision turned to be one of the record-breaking decision in the succession of Reverend Musical Instruments. Reverend continues its work of providing high-quality musical instruments.

Then this time they are releasing Reverend flying V Design, the Reverend Volcano Guitar. This best guitar model has received 2 awards including Guitar World gold medal and Guitar Player editor’s pick. Due to its design and tons of features, it already won the heart of lots of musicians.

Overview

The Reverend Volcano Guitar features V-shaped body with rosewood fingerboard, Carbon comp resistors, runs on a battery of 9V, NOS germanium transistors, Neutrik jacks, Alpha pots,3-way pickup switch and volume, tone, and bass contour controls, Tune-o-Matic bridge with a stop bar tailpiece, 22 medium jumbo frets, 24.75″ scale length, 2 Reverend humbuckers (calibrated for each position).

When it comes to pickups Reverend does not import its pickups from anywhere else; the company manufactures its own pickups to provide the best tonal match to their instruments. The thin poly finish on the guitar really makes it look cool. The body of Reverend Volcano Guitar is made up of Korina wood also known as White Limba or African limba. As Korina wood has the best tonal properties than Mahogany wood along with perfect resonance and is very light in weight.

The Roasted Maple neck is specially taken care of in the procedure of making guitars; as it gets heated over 300°F which helps in relieving moisture, impurities, and sugars from the wood. Due to the classic Maple neck, it doesn’t need periodical adjustments and the Bass Contour is great to tight up the low end and helps in re-voicing the pickups.

The Pin lock tuners are designed with an aim to provide freedom to change string faster and exceptional tuning stability. The String Nuts are formed of Graphite with a width of 1.6875 “(1-11/16”) that allows minimizing friction in the strings. Neck Pickup is Active Humbucker and consists of 6 bolts which help in improving harmonics of an instrument along with stability and sustainability. A pair of Special-H Zebra Humbuckers is also provided with Volcano Guitars.
